God knows you, because He has "formed the spirit of man" (12:1).
Zechariah 12:1–3 The oracle of the word of the LORD concerning Israel: Thus declares the LORD, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him: [2] “Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples. The siege of Jerusalem will also be against Judah. [3] On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it will surely hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth will gather against it. (ESV)
Zechariah probably combined the idea that the LORD created the heavens and earth (Gen 1) with Gen 2:7 where He "breathed the breath of life into man's nostrils". Because the LORD was both the creator of the heavens, earth and Man, He (the Maker) knows everything about you and I.
Indeed, Psalm 33:15 says "he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. (ESV)" This is so whether we "sit" or "rise"—He even discerns our thoughts "from afar" (Psa 139:2).
APPLICATION: 敢敢求。 Ask courageously. God knows what we need before we ask (Matt 6:8, 32). As you seek Him sincerely, it is likely that most of your prayers are in accordance to His will.
Since the survival of God's people was very important to Him for His purposes, readers should not be surprised that Zechariah's message was that God will repel nations that aim to harm His people. Therefore, God's people should continue to rest upon the fact that God has formed the spirit of man and knows best how to take care, protect and guide them!
