Isaiah 60:19 The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (ESV)

Isaiah 60:3–4 [3] And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. [4] Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip. (ESV)

After the thunderstorms of punishment and exile, we see the “clear skies” and “rainbows” of the holy city’s destiny. Firstly, Isaiah 60:1–4 points to the city’s brightness and numerical rise in the residents. While Isaiah’s audience and predecessors might have preferred to walk in darkness, the future generation would now chose to side with the light.

The radiance visible to all and sundry was NOT of their own pedigree or doing, but they merely reflected the glory of God’s Himself, like an authentic and accurately made mirror.

Secondly, this future was filled with wealth (Isaiah 60:5–9) and precious metals of silver and gold, but more precious than that—the Holy One of Israel is there, so is His name (60:9b).

Thirdly, the prophet points to a time of rebuilding (Isaiah 60:10–14). Phrases like “foreigners shall build up your walls”, “kings shall minister to you” and others bringing “wealth of the nations” (60:11) point to the web of relationships through which The LORD would directly/indirectly sustain and support the nation, or His people today.

Fourthly, we see from Isaiah 60:15–22 the psychological wellness and emotional comfort due to the (1) bestowing of majesty as opposed to experiencing hatred and loneliness before that, (2) support and nurture being received from the nations, (3) peace and righteousness, and (4) they can bring God glory—their lives were not meaningless.

Believers today can also be sure that the same God will “hasten” what He sought to do in His sovereign will, the result of which was designed to invoke awe from worshippers and bring glory to Himself. It is not too good to be true. It was good, just as the LORD had designed it, for worshippers today to embrace and celebrate. Would you praise Him louder this weekend, for the present and future blessedness?
