It’s the time to reflect and recommit again. Do we seek God's will with a sincere heart?

Scripture: Jeremiah 42:6
[6] Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.” (ESV)

Reflections:
In Jeremiah 42, the remnant of Judah, frightened and scattered after the Babylonian invasion, approaches the prophet Jeremiah. They ask him to seek God’s guidance on their behalf, promising to obey whatever God says—whether they like it or not. At first glance, it looks like a revival of faith.

But as we read further, we learn that their request was hollow. When God’s answer—stay in the land and trust Me—didn’t align with their fears or plans, they rejected His word and chose their own path.

How often do we do the same? We ask God for guidance, but only with the hope that He will confirm what we already want to do. We say, “Your will be done,” but our hearts are set on our own will. The people of Judah said all the right things, but their actions revealed a lack of true trust.

Jeremiah 42 is a powerful reminder that seeking God’s direction means more than asking for His input—it means committing to obey, no matter what. God’s ways often challenge our fears and stretch our faith. Staying in a land under threat may seem risky, but for Judah, it was the path of obedience and blessing.

Self Check:
(1) Do I genuinely want God’s will, or do I only want His approval for my plans?

(2) When God’s answer challenges my comfort, am I willing to trust and obey anyway?

(3) Is there an area in my life where I’m hesitating to follow God fully?

Prayer:
Father, I confess that I often ask for Your guidance while clinging to my own will. Forgive me for the times I’ve rejected Your direction because it didn’t match my expectations. Help me to trust You fully—to obey whether it is favourable or not. Give me the courage to follow You, especially when the path seems uncertain. Your will is always best. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
