James 2 examines the attitude that "I am right" and deals with whether this "rightness" is shown in a person's actions. James commanded readers not to show favouritism (See 2:1) and gives a hypothetical example of this towards the rich (2:2–4). He then continued to give three reasons why showing favouritism was wrong:
(1) Firstly, favouring the rich is a bad idea–in fact, it is foolish (see 2:5–7).
(2) Secondly, it is unlawful (see 2:8–11).
(3) Thirdly, it is against the practice of being merciful (2:12–13).
REFLECTION (1): Does the "love your neighbor as yourself" command (Jam 2:8) result in us treating those around us without favouritism (Jam 2:3,8)?
REFLECTION (2): Do what we "speak and act" coincide (Jam 2:12)?
REFLECTION (3): Do we show more mercy or judgment to others (Jam 2:13)?
James continues the examination with the challenge to the readers: Does their faith result in deeds? (Jam 2:14-26)
APPLICATION: Living a life full of good deeds is the best way to exhibit the true faith a person has within.
This lifestyle might translate to
(1) provision of daily necessities for others, Jam 2:15-17.
(2) believing in God's provision of us, following the example of Abraham sacrificing Isaac episode, Jam 2:20-24.
(3) taking actions, even risking one's own life like Rahab providing lodging to the spies (Jam 2:25-26).

(2）相信神对我们的供应，效法亚伯拉罕牺牲以撒的例子 (2:20-24)。
(3) 采取行动，甚至冒着生命危险，就像喇合为使者提供住处一样（2:25-26）。
