What if you are the only Bible someone will ever read? Before people hear about Jesus, they often watch His followers. Today, we'll discover why God calls you a living letter—and how Christ removes the veil so His glory can shine through your life.

Scripture Focus:
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another." —2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV)

(1) Devotion

How do people form their first impression of Jesus Christ?

For many, it is not by opening a Bible or attending a church service. It is by watching the lives of those who follow Him.

Paul tells the Corinthians that they themselves are his "letter of recommendation." Their transformed lives testified that Christ was at work through the gospel. Instead of carrying written credentials, Paul pointed to changed people. The Holy Spirit had written God's message not on tablets of stone but on human hearts (2 Corinthians 3:2–3).

The same is true today. Believers are the "homepages" and "front pages" that introduce Jesus to the world. Before people read the Scriptures, they often read our attitudes, our words, our integrity, our compassion, and our hope. While our lives cannot save anyone, they can either reflect or obscure the beauty of Christ.

Paul then contrasts the old covenant with the new. Moses wore a veil after meeting with God because the glory on his face was fading. But in Christ, that veil is removed. Through faith, we no longer approach God with partial understanding or from a distance. We see His glory clearly in Jesus Christ.

The gospel does more than forgive sin—it opens our eyes. The Holy Spirit removes the veil from our hearts so we can know Christ personally and understand God's redeeming plan. As we continue to behold Christ through His Word, we are progressively transformed into His likeness.

This transformation is not the result of human effort alone but of the Spirit's work. Day by day, He shapes our character so that the message we proclaim is confirmed by the life we live.

The question is not whether people are reading us—they are. The question is: What are they learning about Jesus from our lives?

May they see His grace in our humility, His truth in our integrity, His love in our compassion, and His hope in our perseverance. As the veil has been removed in Christ, may our lives clearly display His glory to a world longing for truth.

(2) Key Truth:
When the veil is removed through Christ, the Holy Spirit transforms believers into living letters that clearly display the glory and gospel of Jesus to the world.

(3) Reflections

  • If your life were the first introduction someone had to Jesus, what would they discover?
  • Are there attitudes or habits that obscure Christ's glory rather than reveal it?
  • How are you intentionally beholding Christ so that the Holy Spirit continues transforming you into His likeness?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for removing the veil through Jesus Christ and allowing me to know You personally. Continue Your transforming work in my heart through Your Holy Spirit. May my life become a faithful letter that points others to Christ. Help my words, actions, and character reflect His grace and truth, so that those around me may see His glory and be drawn to Him. In Jesus' name, Amen.
