MEDITATION: The destruction of Jerusalem (Ezek 33:21-22) in about 585 B.C. was now a reality when the "fugitive from Jerusalem came" to Ezekiel to report the event.
This event validated Ezekiel's prophetic ministry and words (Ezek 24:25-27). After the oracles against the nations (e.g. Ezek 25-32), the text comes back to the people of the LORD--Judah, "house of Israel" (Ezek 33:7,10,11,20).
While prophets like Ezekiel were responsible for warning the people (Ezek 33:1-9), each individual, however, also had the responsibility to "turn back from his way and live" (Ezek 33:11).
REFLECTION: "Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live?" (Ezek 33:10). This was a turning point for the people in exile. Have we admitted our sins so that this would become a pivot for us to turn and repent, and to look forward to the message of hope that the LORD has for those who have faith in Him and follow Him?
http://m.bbintl.org/bible/ncv/eze/33/
