In Matthew 4, Jesus' immaculate example on obeying the Deuteronomy commands (3 times) and the angels' special attention on Jesus (Matt 4:11b) pointed to Him as the one they were waiting for.
- In Exo 19:3-6 Moses went up the mountain to RECEIVE the law that God gave.
"[3] while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: [4] You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. [5] Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; [6] and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel" (Exo 19:3-6).
- BUT in Matt 5, 6 & 7:1-27, Jesus went up the mountain AND GAVE the law. By sitting down, he adopted the teaching posture of a Rabbi.
"[1] Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. [2] And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: [3] "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matt 5:1-3).
- While Moses was told "to say" and "to speak", Jesus SAID the law, and TAUGHT them personally!
REFLECTION: How did Matthew use these points to help readers focus on Jesus?
APPLICATION: Jesus is the "new" Moses. Matthew's readers are now taught to follow Jesus and hold Him in as high regard as Moses, even more. If we claim to hold Jesus in high regard, we must allow what He TAUGHT to mould, cut and stitch us up like a Master Surgeon, so that we become effectively "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation". 在马太福音4章，耶稣在顺服申命记的律例上(3次)体现了完美的典范，而天使对耶稣特别的照应(太4:11b)也向人们指向，祂就是那位他们所等待的。

"[3] 摩西上到 神那里去，耶和华从山上呼唤他，说：“你要这样告诉雅各家，吩咐以色列人说：[4] “我向埃及人所行的，你们都看见了；也看见了我怎样像鹰一样把你们背在翅膀上，带领你们到我这里来。[5] 现在你们若是实在听我的话，遵守我的约，你们就必在万民中作属我的产业，因为全地都是我的。[6] 你们要归我作君尊的祭司和圣洁的国民。’这些话你都要对以色列人说。” (出19:3-6).
- 但是在马太福音5，6和7章至7:27,耶稣却到山上发布律例。祂坐下来，表示祂采用了一个教师在教导时的姿势。
"[1]耶稣看见群众，就上了山；他坐下之后，门徒来到他跟前， [2] 他就开口教训他们：[3] ”心灵贫乏的人有福了，因为天国是他们的。"(太 5:1-3).
- 摩西必须去“告诉”，去“吩咐”，耶稣却“说”了律例，还亲自开口教训他们！
反思：马太如何用这些亮点帮助读者专注于耶稣？
应用：耶稣是那“新”摩西。马太教导读者要跟随耶稣并把祂看为与摩西一样崇高，或甚至是更崇高。如果我们把耶稣看为是崇高的，我们必须让祂所教导我们的塑造我们、剖开和缝合我们，犹如外科权威一样，以致我们能够成为“祭司的王”和“圣洁的国”。 你愿意吗？
