QT 05/08/2025 Tue. Ezekiel 15 The double jeopardy of a burnt vine.

Scripture Focus:
Ezekiel 15:1–3 [1] And the word of the LORD came to me: [2] “Son of man, how does the wood of the vine surpass any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest? [3] Is wood taken from it to make anything? Do people take a peg from it to hang any vessel on it? (ESV)
(1) Fruitless Faith is Useless (vv. 2–5)
The vine, symbolic of Israel, is only useful if it bears fruit. Wood from a vine can’t be used to build anything substantial—its sole purpose is to produce grapes. Similarly, a believer's life must bear the fruit of righteousness (cf. John 15:1–8). If not, even religious identity or tradition is no safeguard.
Application: Am I bearing fruit in my walk with Christ? Is there genuine evidence of faith: love, repentance, service, holiness?
(2) God’s Righteous Judgment (vv. 6–7)
God makes clear that judgment will fall on Jerusalem of Ezekiel’s time because of unfaithfulness. Even those who “escape” still face fire. This is a sobering reminder that God's justice cannot be avoided or sidestepped by external religiosity.
Application: Do I trust in God’s mercy while also respecting His holiness? Have I allowed sin to go unchecked in my life?
(3) God's Purpose in Judgment (v. 7b)
“…you will know that I am the Lord…” — Even in judgment, God's goal is that people come to a true knowledge of Him. He desires repentance and relationship.
Application: Is God using discipline to draw me closer to Him? Am I responding with humility and submission?
(4) A Call to Faithfulness (v. 8)
The root issue is unfaithfulness. This chapter confronts casual or nominal believers. True discipleship requires a faithful heart.
Application: Is my devotion to Christ wholehearted, or have I become spiritually barren?
Prayer:
Lord, we come before You today with hearts of gratitude for Your Word. Thank You for reminding us of the serious consequences of unfaithfulness and the beauty of living in communion with You. Help us to remain connected to the True Vine, Jesus Christ. Forgive us for the times we have strayed and bear fruit in us that glorifies Your name. May we live with an awareness of Your holiness, walking in the light of Your truth. We pray that our lives would reflect Your glory and that we would be faithful stewards of the gifts You have given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
