📖 Scripture Focus:

“And he said to me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ And I answered, ‘O Lord GOD, you know.’” — Ezekiel 37:3, ESV

Note that Ezekiel’s answer was not a straight forward uninhibited “yes”. But “you know”, seemingly revealing the struggle of the hopeless situation of human, especially that of Ezekiel’s own people and nation.

🔍 Background:

Ezekiel 37 takes place in the darkest season of Israel’s history — exile. The people are scattered, their land is ruined, and their hope is gone. Into this hopelessness, God gives Ezekiel a vision: a valley full of dry bones.

These bones represent the death of a nation, the loss of identity, and the sense that all is over.

But God speaks.
And when He speaks — even dead bones listen.

🔥 Reflection:

God asks Ezekiel: “Can these bones live?” It’s a haunting question — and maybe one we ask too:

Can my family be restored?

Can my heart heal after such pain?

Can the church be revived?

Can I overcome this sin?

Ezekiel’s answer is wise: “O Lord GOD, you know.”

Then God commands him to prophesy to the bones — to speak His Word over the dead and dry. As Ezekiel obeys, something miraculous happens:

Bones rattle and come together. Flesh and skin form. Breath enters — and what was once dead stands as a vast army.

This vision is both literal (for the exiled people of Israel) and spiritual:
It’s a picture of revival — not by human effort, but by God’s Word and Spirit.

“I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live…” (v. 14)

✝️ Gospel Connection:

This chapter echoes the resurrection power of Jesus. He didn’t come to make bad people better — He came to make dead people live.

“Even when we were dead in our trespasses, [God] made us alive together with Christ…” — Ephesians 2:5, ESV

Just as God breathed life into Adam in Genesis, He now breathes spiritual life into us through the Gospel. The cross is where death was defeated. The resurrection is where dry bones walked again.

🧭 Application:

(1) Do you feel spiritually dry or lifeless?
Ask God to breathe His Spirit into you again. Open His Word and let Him speak to the "dry bones" in your life.

(2) Are you speaking life to others?
Ezekiel didn’t raise the bones by his own power. He simply spoke what God told him. The same is true for us — we share the Gospel, and God brings life.

(3) Are you trusting God for the impossible?
If God can raise bones, He can restore marriages, heal hearts, break addictions, and revive churches.

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, I confess that at times I feel like dry bones — lifeless, hopeless, and weary. But I believe You are the God who gives life. Speak to me. Breathe into me. Fill me with Your Spirit. Help me to trust that You can restore what is broken and dead. Use me to speak life to others in need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

💡 Key Takeaway:

No situation is too dry, too dead, or too far gone for God. When He speaks, dead things live again.
