QT 05/11/2024 Tue. Hebrews 4
READ http://www.esvbible.org/heb4
Hebrews chapters 1-2 reminds readers that God revealed Himself in times past through the prophets but in the readers' days, He has spoken again through His Son, who surpasses all, including the angels.
For this situation, the author employs the exhortation contained in Heb 2:1-4 to remind them of the seriousness of not listening to the author's warnings and advice, especially when the Son also suffered humiliation (Heb 2:5-9).
The readers are in the danger of not identifying themselves with this very faithful Son that God has chosen to speak through.
In fact, the readers themselves are in the danger of being unfaithful by (1) continuing with their hearts of disbelief (Heb 3:7-19) and (2) refusing to enter the rest that God has provided (Heb 4:1-13).
As such, the readers are in the danger of emulating the wilderness generation that failed to enter the rest of God but died in the wilderness (Heb 4:11). The author employs the warning passage of Heb 3:7-19 and exhorts them to enter that rest of God (Heb 4:11).
APPLICATION : Continue to hold on to the faith we profess, even under intense persecution. Jesus understands and has set the example for us to follow.
http://m.bbintl.org/bible/ncv/Heb/4/
