Stop waiting for signs. Stop overthinking your future. Jesus already made your calling clear in Acts 1—you’re not here to figure everything out. You’re here to be a witness. Let’s talk about what that really means.
Stop Searching—Start Witnessing! Less Knowing, More Going! Don’t Wait for Answers—Be the Answer! From Curiosity to Commission!
There’s something deeply human about wanting to know the future. We want timelines, clarity, and certainty. The disciples were no different. In Acts 1:6, they asked Jesus, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” They were looking for answers—when and how everything would unfold. Would the old order of things come back? But Jesus gently redirects them.
“It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:7–8)
Notice what He does: He shifts their focus from knowledge to mission.
(1) God Doesn’t Call Us to Figure Everything Out
Jesus makes it clear—there are things the Father has chosen not to reveal. We often stall in our faith, waiting for perfect clarity before we act. But obedience doesn’t require full understanding. It requires trust.
Application: Faith means moving forward even when God hasn’t given you the full timeline.
(2) God Empowers Us for a Purpose
Jesus doesn’t leave His disciples empty-handed. He promises the Holy Spirit—the very power of God dwelling within them. This power isn’t for status, comfort, or curiosity. It’s for witness. To witness is to testify—to speak of what we’ve seen and experienced in Christ. In a court room, practically everyone in the world can be a witness, as long as they can recount what they “seen … heard … perceived by any other sense … “ (Section 62(1) Evidence Act, Chapter 97).
Application: As you experience more and more of Jesus Christ in your daily lives, remember them, note down the experience and find the opportunity to share them.
(3) Your Calling Is Clear
While the timing of God’s plans may be hidden, your assignment is not:
“…you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
From your immediate circle to the wider world, every believer is sent. You don’t need to know everything about God’s plan—you just need to faithfully share what you know about Jesus.
(4) Don’t Just Stand Looking Up
After Jesus ascends, the disciples stand staring into the sky. Two angels ask: “Why do you stand looking into heaven?” (Acts 1:11)
It’s a gentle challenge: Don’t get stuck gazing upward when you’ve been commissioned to go outward.
Reflection
(a) Where are you waiting for answers instead of stepping out in obedience?
(b) Who in your “Jerusalem” (your daily life) needs to hear your testimony?
(c) Are you relying on the Holy Spirit’s power, or your own understanding?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve been more focused on knowing Your plans than obeying Your call. Help me trust what You’ve kept hidden and be faithful with what You’ve made clear. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can boldly witness for You—right where I am and wherever You send me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
