QT 06/07/2025 Sun. Jeremiah 46 God Over Nations, Hope for His People

In difficult times, including times of judgment or receiving the consequences of our own mistakes, Jeremiah 46 remind us to focus on God's sovereignty, justice, and the hope found in His promises. If God is over the nations, there is hope for His people.
Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 46:27–28
[27] “But fear not, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel, for behold, I will save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid.
[28] Fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the LORD, for I am with you. I will make a full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.” (ESV)
Reflection:
Jeremiah 46 is part of a series of prophecies where God speaks judgment over the nations surrounding Israel. Specifically, this chapter addresses Egypt, once a powerful empire, now under God’s hand of discipline. It serves as a sober reminder that no nation, no matter how mighty, can stand against the will of God.
But nestled in this chapter of judgment is a tender word to God’s covenant people—Israel. Though they too are under discipline for their sin, God speaks hope: "But fear not, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel, for behold, I will save you..."
This shows us a powerful truth: God is sovereign over all the earth, and His justice is never separated from His mercy. While He judges sin, He also preserves a remnant and restores those who belong to Him.
For believers today, we affirm that Jesus Christ bore the full judgment of our sin on the cross. Because of Him, we are not destined for wrath, but for salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:9). Like Israel, we may go through discipline or trials, but God's heart is always for redemption and restoration.
Application:
(1) Trust God's Sovereignty: Even when nations rise and fall, God is in control. Pray for your country and leaders, and never forget that God is King above all.
(2) Fear Not: If you belong to Christ, no matter how difficult your circumstances, you are not forgotten. He promises to be with you.
(3) Live as a Light: The world may experience judgment, but God has placed you as a witness of His grace. Share the gospel boldly.
Prayer:
Lord God, You are the ruler of all nations and the Shepherd of my soul. Thank You for Your justice, and even more for Your mercy. In times of fear or uncertainty, help me trust Your promises. Use me to shine Your light in this world and to proclaim the hope found in Jesus. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
