The world calls it foolish… but God calls it wisdom. What’s so powerful about a cross? Stick around—1 Corinthians 1 might just flip the way you see strength and success!

Scripture Focus: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 (ESV)

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God… For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

Reflection:

Paul begins his letter to the Corinthians by confronting a timeless problem: division and pride within the church. People were aligning themselves with different leaders—Paul, Apollos, Cephas—each thinking their perspective or eloquence proved superiority. But Paul reminds us that true wisdom does not come from human skill or status. The message of the cross—the gospel—is God’s ultimate wisdom and power.

To the world, the cross seems foolish. How can dying on a Roman cross bring salvation? Yet God’s ways overturn human logic. Where we see weakness, God displays strength. Where we see foolishness, God reveals eternal wisdom. The cross challenges our tendency to depend on human solutions and calls us to trust His perfect plan.

Application:

(a) Examine your loyalties: Are you tempted to elevate human teachers, traditions, or methods above Christ Himself?

(b) Embrace God’s wisdom: Instead of relying on human strategies, ask God to help you see situations through His eyes.

(c) Celebrate the cross: Let the simplicity of Christ’s sacrifice remind you that God’s power works best when we admit our weakness.

Thought for the Day: God’s “foolishness” is wiser than the smartest plans of men. Trust the cross—it’s where His power meets our weakness.

Prayer

Lord, help me to rely not on my understanding or the wisdom of the world, but on Your power displayed in the cross. Unite my heart with other believers, and let Your wisdom guide my words and actions. May Your glory be made perfect in my weakness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
