🌿 Isaiah 65:17–19 New Heavens and a New Earth
[17] “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. [18] But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. [19] I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress. (ESV)
💡 Reflection:
Isaiah 65 is a chapter of contrast—there is judgment for the rebellious, yet great hope for the faithful. It reveals the heart of God, who patiently calls out to a people who often reject Him:
Isaiah 65:2–3 [2] I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; [3] a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and making offerings on bricks; (ESV)
Yet, in the face of human stubbornness, God's mercy still prevails for those who turn to Him. We see here one of the most promising promises of God in Scripture—God will make all things new. A new heavens. A new earth. Revelations 21:1 in the New Testament was not the starting point of this idea—the prophet Isaiah have already pointed his audience to this wonderful reality for God’s people a few hundreds years before Jesus Christ.
Is it too hard to believe? A world free from weeping, death, and futility? This isn’t just poetic imagery—it’s a concrete hope for those who trust in Christ.
For the believer, Isaiah 65 reminds us that our faith is not in vain. The trials of this world are temporary. The brokenness experienced by us is but temporary. God is preparing something better — a restored creation where righteousness dwells, and where His people will live in joy, peace, and purpose forever.
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the promise of new beginnings. Thank You that even when we fall short, Your mercy is greater. Help us to live each day with eternity in view. May we be people who respond to Your call, not with stubborn hearts, but with surrendered lives. Come, Lord Jesus, and make all things new. Amen.
🐾 Application:
(1) Respond to His Call: Are there areas in your life where you’ve resisted God’s voice? Turn and respond today.
(2) Live with Hope: Let the promise of a new creation fuel your perseverance through current struggles.
(3) Share the Vision: Tell others about the hope we have—a hope that is eternal, beautiful, and guaranteed in Christ.
