John continued to point readers to Jesus the Messiah with more signs. Jesus tutored a key player of the Jewish establishment Nicodemus with advanced theology (John 3).
This masterclass tutorial continued with a person as far away from the establishment as one could imagine, "A woman from Samaria" who had five husbands in the past and was now cohabiting with the sixth man (John 4:7,17-18).
Lesson 1 of the tutorial: the God who "so loved the world" (John 3:16) crossing ethnic, social and community barriers to reach out to the lost, in a way that even surprised the Samaritan woman (John 4:9).
REFLECTION: Do we have our own prejudices?
Lesson 2: Her true need was for the "living water", identified as the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39), who indwells those who "come to me and drink" (John 7:37). The real food is "to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work" (John 4:34).
APPLICATION: Believe in Jesus Christ today and find true quenching of thirst and satisfaction for our souls. Testify for Jesus: "Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me all that I ever did"" (John 4:39). Her testimony led others to come and hear for themselves (John 4:42).
Jesus performed "the second sign" with the healing of an official's son (John 4:46-54).
APPLICATION: In a way, you are God's sign in these times. Pray that our lives would encourage others to enquire about God, pointing them to the living water everyday.

约翰继续把读者指向那行更多神迹的弥赛亚耶稣。耶稣亲自教导了一个在犹太界很关键的一个人物尼哥德慕，祂教导他高级神学(约翰福音3章)。
这人就是离开犹太界到很远元的地方去，那大师级的辅导课也依然继续着，“一个撒玛利亚妇人”在过去有着五个丈夫，而今正和第六个男人同居(约4:7,17-18)。
第一堂辅导课：那“爱世人”的神(约3:16)越过了民族、社会和群体的障碍，来寻找那失丧的人，就连那撒玛利亚妇人也感到惊讶(约4:9)。
反思:我们是否也有偏见？
第二堂课：她真正的需要是“活水”，也被解释为圣灵(约7:38-39)，这圣灵就居住在那些“到我这里来喝”的人里面(约7:37)。真正的食物是“遵行差我来者的旨意，并且完成他的工作”(约4:34)。
应用：今天就相信耶稣基督并找寻那真正能够解渴和满足我们心灵的活水。为耶稣作见证：“那城里就有许多撒玛利亚人信了耶稣”，因为那撒玛利亚妇人作了见证，“他把我所作的一切都说出来了”(约4:39)。她的见证引了许多人前来聆听(约4:42)。
耶稣所行的“第二个神迹”就是把大臣的儿子医治好(约4:46-54)。
应用：其实在某种程度上，在这个世代，你就是神迹。愿我们的生命能够激励别人来寻求神，把他们指向那每日的活水。
