QT 10/03/2026 Tue. Matthew 28 Assurances of Victory in Spite of Money & Power Politics
READ http://www.esv.org/matthew28
Once in a while, some of us end up as targets of smear campaigns to denigrate our works. Money, untruths and politicking are usually involved to power and propagate that smear. What does Jesus have to say to the victims?
(1) Jesus’ Resurrection Comes with Power (Matthew 28:1–10)
Matthew records that there was a great earthquake. An angel of the Lord descended. His appearance was “like lightning,” and his clothing white as snow. The guards trembled. Power radiated from heaven.
“He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.” (Matthew 28:6, ESV)
The resurrection is not a quiet footnote to history. It is heaven’s public declaration that truth cannot be buried and God’s purposes cannot be stopped. The women came in grief but left in awe and joy. When they met Jesus, “they took hold of his feet and worshiped him” (28:9). Their confidence did not come from self-empowerment but from the reality that their risen Lord reigns.
Reflection: When smear campaigns arise—when lies are funded, narratives manipulated, and reputations attacked—remember: Our strength does not come from defending ourselves endlessly. It comes from knowing that our Master is risen and sovereign.
Victory begins in worship. Will we, like the women, bow at His feet daily—in our hearts and in corporate worship?
(2) When Power and Money Manufacture Lies (Matthew 28:11–15)
The chief priests paid the soldiers to spread a false report:
“His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.” (28:13)
The story collapses under simple logic. If the guards were asleep, how could they testify to what happened? Yet money has persuasive power. Verse 15 says they took the money and did as instructed.
Here we see a sobering truth: Truth was opposed not with evidence, but with influence. Money and political leverage attempted to silence resurrection reality. But manufactured narratives cannot overturn divine acts.
Reflection: Are we ever tempted to join subtle campaigns—whispers, exaggerations, selective storytelling—that diminish the work of God among fellow believers?
When God moves, opposition often follows. But alignment with money and power against truth places one on the wrong side of eternity.
(3) Jesus Assures His Followers with Victory (Matthew 28:16–20)
On a mountain in Galilee, the risen Christ declared: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (28:18) “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (28:20).
Notice the logic:
- Authority declared → “All authority…”
- Mission commanded → Go. Baptise. Teach.
- Presence promised → “I am with you always.”
The central action is “make disciples.” As we go, baptise, and teach obedience to Christ, we participate in a mission that carries divine authority and guaranteed divine presence.
Smear campaigns may win headlines. Money may purchase temporary silence. Power politics may intimidate. But none of these can override the authority of the risen Christ.
Reflection: If all authority belongs to Jesus, then no earthly authority has the final word over your calling. If He is “with you always,” then you are never abandoned in the face of slander.
Will you join Him in His mission—trusting that obedience brings not only fruit, but His abiding presence?
🔔 Final Encouragement
When you are misunderstood, when your integrity is questioned, or when resources are marshaled against you, remember Matthew 28:
- The stone was rolled away.
- The lie was exposed by its own weakness.
- The King still reigns.
Resurrection power outlasts political maneuvering. Stand firm. Worship deeply. Make disciples boldly. Victory is not secured by influence—it is secured by a risen Lord.
🙏 Prayer to the Father
Heavenly Father. You are sovereign over heaven and earth. No power rivals You. No scheme overturns Your purposes. No lie outlives Your truth. Father, when we face misunderstanding, opposition, or quiet smear—when influence and money seem louder than integrity—steady our hearts. Remind us that the stone was rolled away not by human strength, but by Your mighty hand.
You raised Your Son in power. Let that resurrection power strengthen us today. Guard our hearts from bitterness. Keep our lips from retaliation. Deliver us from the temptation to defend ourselves in the flesh. Instead, teach us to worship first. Teach us to trust deeply. Teach us to obey faithfully.
Father, if there are voices around us spinning narratives or distorting truth, grant us discernment without cynicism, courage without pride, and conviction without cruelty.
We declare that all authority belongs to Jesus. Therefore, our future is secure. Our calling is secure. Our vindication rests in You.
Help us to keep going. Help us to make disciples. Help us to teach and live Your commands with humility and boldness. And as You have promised through Your Son, be with us always—to the end of the age. Let us experience Your presence not only in victory, but in endurance. We entrust our reputation, our ministry, and our lives into Your faithful hands. In Jesus’ powerful name we pray, Amen.
