The Apostle Peter now reveals an additional role he has—"a fellow elder". From 1 Peter 5, we see details of this role :-
(1) The elder will share in the glory to be revealed (1Pe 5:1).
(2) The elder should now be a shepherd "of God's flock" (1Pe 5:2).
(3) Shepherding is to be done NOT under compulsion, but powered by a willing heart 1Pe 5:2.
(4) The attitude of "lording" should not exist. Instead, elders should be "examples to the flock" (1Pe 5:3). This might entail examples in commitment, generosity, diligence in studying the Word God, available for service and faithful in all things.
(5) The elder does not pursue "dishonest gain" (1Pe 5:2).
REFLECTION: Can we sincerely say today to those whom we are leading, "Follow me," as leaders lead by example?
Peter exhorts the younger ones to submit to their elders, because God "opposes the proud" (1Pet 5:5).
REFLECTION: How dangerous would it be if God were to oppose you because you are proud?

(2) 长老当牧养“神的羊群”(彼前5:2)。
(3) 牧养不是出于勉强，而是出于甘心(彼前5:2)。
(4) 想“称霸”的态度是不应当存在的。 相反的，长老必须做“羊群的榜样”(彼前5:3)。这或许包括了委身、慷慨、勤读神的话语、服事及在所有事上都忠心。
(5) 长老不“贪财”(彼前5:2)。
反省：今天，我们可否诚恳地对那些我们带领的人说：“跟随我”，以榜样来带领人？
彼得劝勉青年人要顺服长老，因为神“敌挡骄傲的人”(彼前5:5)。
反省：如果神低档你，因为你骄傲，你想想，那是多么可怕呀？
