How much have you experienced of God’s holiness, judgment, and grace? Do we ever forget learning about God from these experiences? Ezekiel’s contemporaries did.
Key Verse: “But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations…” — Ezekiel 20:9, 14, 22 (ESV)
Devotional Thought:
Ezekiel 20 is a sobering chapter—a divine history lesson where God lays bare Israel’s repeated rebellion. The elders of Israel come to inquire of the Lord, but instead of answers, they receive a confrontation. God recounts how, from Egypt to the wilderness, His people rejected His statutes and profaned His Sabbaths. Again and again, they turned to idols. Again and again, He withheld full judgment—for the sake of His name.
How about us?
We often want God to speak into our situations. We come to Him like the elders—looking for insight or comfort. But God may want to speak to something deeper: the condition of our hearts. Like Israel, we may have outward religion but inward rebellion. We may claim to follow, while secretly harbouring idols—things we trust or love more than Him.
But here’s the striking gospel truth in this hard chapter: God does not abandon His people. Though they are unfaithful, He remains faithful. Not because they earned it—but because of who He is. “I acted for the sake of my name,” God says three times. His mercy is rooted in His own character.
That’s good news for us. Our salvation isn’t based on our track record. If it were, we’d be lost. But God has acted for His name’s sake—ultimately, through Christ. Jesus bore the judgment we deserve. His righteousness covers our failure. And His Spirit now writes God’s law on our hearts—not just stone tablets.

(1) Are there areas in your life where you're going through the motions but resisting God in your heart?
(2）What "idols" do you tend to trust in instead of God?
(3) How does knowing God acts for the sake of His name give you security in your salvation?
Prayer: Lord, I confess that like Israel, I often wander. I forget your ways, and I turn to things that cannot save. Forgive me. Thank you for your mercy—that you act not because I deserve it, but because of who You are. Keep me in your truth. Write your law on my heart, and help me to live for the glory of your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.

灵修思考：
以西结书20章是一段发人深省的章节——上帝揭示以色列反复叛逆的属灵历史课。以色列的长老们前来求问耶和华，却未得到答案，反而遭遇了上帝的责备。上帝回顾了从埃及到旷野的历程，祂的子民如何弃绝祂的律例、亵渎祂的安息日。他们一次又一次转向偶像，而上帝却因祂的名，一再暂缓完全的审判。
我们呢？
我们常常希望上帝能对我们的处境发声。我们像那些长老一样来到祂面前，寻求洞见或安慰。但上帝或许想触及更深层的问题：我们内心的状态。如同以色列人，我们可能外表虔诚，内心却叛逆。我们可能声称跟随祂，却暗中怀有偶像——那些我们比祂更信赖或更喜爱的东西。
但在这艰难的章节中，有一个令人震撼的福音真理：上帝不会放弃祂的子民。尽管他们不忠，祂仍保持忠实。不是因为他们配得——而是因为祂的本性。“我这样做是为了我的名，”上帝三次如此说。祂的怜悯植根于祂自己的品格。
这对我们来说是个好消息。我们的得救并非基于我们的过往表现。若真是如此，我们早已灭亡。但上帝因祂的名行事——最终是通过基督。耶稣承担了我们应得的审判。祂的公义遮盖了我们的失败。而祂的圣灵如今将上帝的律法写在我们心里——而非仅仅刻在石版上。
反思问题：
(1) 在你的生活中，有没有一些领域，你只是走过场，却在心里抵挡上帝？
(2) 你倾向于信靠哪些“偶像”而不是上帝？
(3) 知道上帝因祂的名行事，如何让你在救恩上感到安全？
祷告：主啊，我承认自己像以色列一样常走迷途。我忘记你的道路，转而投向不能拯救的事物。求你赦免我。感谢你的怜悯——你行事并非因我配得，乃因你本是何等神。求你使我常在你的真理中。将你的律法刻在我的心上，帮助我为你的名荣耀而活。奉耶稣的名祷告，阿们。
