How do you know if a ministry is truly from God? Paul refers to divine power, biblical truth, faithful calling, and the approval of the Lord. Strongholds will fall, arguments will fade, and human praise will pass—but the servant whom the Lord approves will stand. Today, we look at Paul’s defense of his ministry in 2 Corinthians 10.

Paul’s defense of his ministry in 2 Corinthians 10 reminds us that true Christian ministry is not measured by human standards of strength, influence, or reputation. The servant of Christ is called to fight a spiritual battle with spiritual means, faithfully serve within God’s calling, and seek the approval that comes from the Lord alone.

(1) God’s Work Is Accomplished Through Divine Power, Not Human Strength

Paul explains that although he lives in the flesh, he does not wage war according to the flesh. His ministry is not built upon worldly strategies, personal dominance, or human weapons. Instead, “the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4, ESV).

The kingdom of God advances not through human pride or force, but through the power of God. The greatest obstacles to faith—false beliefs, spiritual blindness, and resistance to God—cannot be overcome merely by human wisdom. They require the transforming power of God’s truth.

This challenges us to examine how we approach ministry and Christian living. Do we depend primarily on our abilities, arguments, or reputation? Or do we trust the Lord’s power to accomplish what only He can do?

(2) The Goal of Ministry Is True Knowledge of God and Obedience to Christ

Paul describes his mission as “destroying arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God” and “taking every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5, ESV).

Christian ministry is not simply about winning debates or gaining followers. Its purpose is to bring people into a right understanding of God and a life of submission to Christ. The gospel confronts false ideas because it seeks to restore people to the truth.

Paul’s concern is not merely that people would know facts about God, but that their thoughts, desires, and actions would be brought under Christ’s lordship. True knowledge of God always leads to transformed obedience.

(3) Faithfulness Means Serving Within the Sphere God Has Assigned

Paul also demonstrates humility by recognizing the limits of his calling. He does not claim to be the apostle to everyone in every place. Instead, he speaks of the “area of influence that God assigned to us, to reach even to you” (2 Corinthians 10:13, ESV).

The Corinthians were part of the ministry God had entrusted to Paul. He had reached them first, and his concern for them came from God’s calling, not personal ambition (2 Corinthians 10:14).

This teaches us that God does not call every believer to the same role or reach. Faithfulness is not measured by comparing ourselves with others, but by faithfully carrying out the responsibility God has given us. We are called to serve where God has placed us, using the gifts He has provided, for His purposes.

(4) The Lord’s Approval Is the True Measure of Ministry

Paul concludes with a powerful reminder: “For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends” (2 Corinthians 10:18, ESV).

Human praise can be temporary and misleading. People may judge ministry by popularity, visibility, eloquence, or success in the world’s eyes. But God looks at faithfulness.

The servant of Christ does not ultimately seek applause from people but approval from the Lord. The question is not, “How impressive am I?” but, “Have I faithfully served the One who called me?”

(5) Reflection

Paul’s defense of his ministry points us back to the heart of Christian service: dependence on God’s power, commitment to God’s truth, humility in God’s calling, and desire for God’s approval.

May we seek to fight spiritual battles with spiritual weapons, lead others toward obedience to Christ, faithfully serve within the opportunities God gives us, and remember that the final commendation we seek is not from people but from the Lord.

Prayer:

Lord, teach us to rely on Your power rather than our own strength. Help us to bring every thought under the authority of Christ and to faithfully serve within the calling You have given us. Keep us from seeking human praise, and make our greatest desire to receive Your approval. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

保罗在《哥林多后书》第10章中对事工的辩护提醒我们：真正的基督徒事工不能以人的标准——如力量、影响力或声誉——来衡量。基督的仆人被呼召要用属灵的手段打属灵的仗，在神的呼召中忠心事奉，并寻求唯独来自主的认可。

(1) 神的工作是藉着神的大能成就的，而非人的力量

保罗解释说，虽然他活在肉体中，但他并不按肉体争战。他的事工并非建立在世俗的策略、个人的支配权或人的武器之上。相反，“ 因为我们作战所用的兵器，不是属于这世界的，而是在　神面前有能力的，可以攻陷坚固的堡垒”（哥林多后书10:4）。

这促使我们反思自己从事事工和过基督徒生活的方式。我们主要是依靠自己的能力、辩论或声誉吗？还是信靠主的权能，去成就唯有祂才能成就的事？

(2) 事工的目标是真正认识神并顺服基督

保罗将他的使命描述为“攻破诡辩，和做来阻挡人认识　神的一切高墙，并且把一切心意夺回来，顺服基督。”（哥林多后书 10:5）。

基督徒的事工不仅仅是为了赢得辩论或获得追随者。其目的是引导人们正确认识神，并过一种顺服基督的生活。福音之所以挑战错误观念，是因为它致力于将人带回真理之中。

保罗所关心的，不仅仅是让人了解关于神的事实，更是要使他们的思想、意愿和行为都归服于基督的主权之下。对神的真正认识，总会带来生命被改变后的顺服。

(3) 忠心意味着在神所指定的范围内服事

保罗还通过认识到自己呼召的局限性来展现谦卑。他并不声称自己是各地所有人的使徒。相反，他提到“神量给我们的界限之内；这界限一直延伸到你们那里”（哥林多后书10:13）。

哥林多教会是神托付给保罗的事工的一部分。他首先接触到了他们，他对他们的关怀源于神的呼召，而非个人野心（哥林多后书 10:14）。

这教导我们：神并非呼召每位信徒担任相同的角色或承担相同的事工范围。忠心并非通过与他人比较来衡量，而是通过忠实地履行神赋予我们的责任来体现。我们被呼召要在神所安置的地方，运用祂所赐的恩赐，为祂的旨意而服事。

(4) 主的认可才是事工的真正标准

保罗以一个有力的提醒作结：“因为蒙悦纳的，不是自我推荐的人，而是主所推荐的人”（哥林多后书 10:18）。

人的称赞可能是暂时的，也可能是误导性的。人们或许会根据人气、知名度、口才，或在世人眼中取得的成功来评判事工。但神看重的是忠心。

基督的仆人最终寻求的不是人的掌声，而是主的认可。关键不在于“我有多令人印象深刻？”，而在于“我是否忠心事奉了呼召我的那位？”

(5) 反思

保罗为自己的事工所作的辩护，将我们引回了基督徒事奉的核心：倚靠上帝的大能、坚守上帝的真理、在上帝的呼召中保持谦卑，以及渴慕得到上帝的认可。

愿我们寻求用属灵的兵器打属灵的仗，引导他人顺服基督，在神赐予的机会中忠心事奉，并谨记我们所寻求的最终称许，不是来自人，而是来自主。

祷告：

主啊，求祢教导我们倚靠祢的大能，而非自己的力量。求祢帮助我们将每一个意念都顺服在基督的权柄之下，并在祢所赐的呼召中忠心事奉。求祢保守我们不寻求人的称赞，使我们最大的心愿是得着祢的喜悦。奉耶稣的名祷告。阿们。
