It was not easy to stand for truth in a hostile world both in Jeremiah’s time and even now.
Scripture: Jeremiah 26:2–4
[2] “Thus says the LORD: Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the LORD all the words that I command you to speak to them; do not hold back a word. [3] It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them because of their evil deeds. [4] You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law that I have set before you, (ESV)
Reflection
Jeremiah was given a hard task: to stand in the temple and preach a message of judgment. He was not called to comfort or entertain, but to confront. He stood in a place of worship and called people to repentance. This boldness led to fierce opposition—some even demanded his death (Jeremiah 26:8-11).
But God had a purpose: "Perhaps they will listen." The heart of God is always to restore. Even judgment is meant to awaken repentance and bring people back to Him.
Jeremiah’s obedience, despite fear and threats, challenges us today. In a world often resistant to truth, we are still called to speak it—with love, humility, and courage. We are not guaranteed applause, but we are promised God’s presence.
When Jeremiah was nearly executed, God raised up defenders like Ahikam (v. 24), showing that God can protect His servants even in hostile environments. The call to speak truth may be costly, but it is never unnoticed by heaven.
Application
(1) Are you willing to speak God’s truth even when it’s unpopular?
(2) Where in your life is God calling you to be bold?
(3) Are there people you’ve written off as hopeless, but God still says “Perhaps they will listen”?
Prayer
Lord, give me the boldness of Jeremiah. Teach me to speak truth in love, to obey You fully, and to trust You with the results. May my life point others to repentance and restoration in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
