📖 Scripture Focus 6:1–3
[1] “Come, let us return to the LORD; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.

[2] After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.

[3] Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” (ESV)

🔍 Reflection:

Hosea 6 opens with a passionate call to repentance: “Come, let us return to the Lord.” Israel had been unfaithful, chasing idols and rejecting God’s love. And yet, God’s heart is not for destruction, but for healing and restoration.

Notice the pattern: God allows pain (“He has torn us”), but for the purpose of healing. He disciplines, but never abandons. His desire is always to bind us up — not to leave us wounded.

Verse 6 echoes this deep truth:

“For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6)

The Lord is not interested in empty rituals or religious performance. He longs for hearts that know Him, love Him, and walk with Him in truth. This points forward to the Gospel — where God doesn’t just call us back, but comes Himself in Christ to bring us home.

Even though God is hurt by His people's love that last no more than the morning cloud and dew (6:4), He never gave up on His people before the appointed time of Final Judgment. Even though predecessors like Adam (6:7), even priests (6:9) go astray, it was no excuse for readers of Scripture today to blame anyone for their own disobedience. Each of us is issued with the same call to respond, “Return to the Lord”.

🙏 Application:

(1) Examine your heart. Are there areas where you’ve drifted? God is calling you to return.

(2) Don’t fear discipline. God uses it to heal and restore, not to punish in anger.

(3) Pursue knowing God, not just religious habits. He desires relationship over ritual.

🙌 Prayer:

Father, thank You that even when I stray, You call me back. Help me to return to You with all my heart. Heal what is broken, and restore what is lost. I want to know You, not just serve You outwardly. Teach me to walk in steadfast love and truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
