Jesus' revelation of His identity continued with a tense interaction with the Pharisees in the temple.
The declaration that "I am the light of the world..." (John 8:12) pointed to Jesus' role of fulfilling the promises of the various Old Testament passages (e.g. Psa 27:1, Isa 49:6).
APPLICATION (1): Follow Jesus so that we would not walk in the dark.
Those present were not able to accept Jesus' claims by challenging the procedure on witnesses (John 8:13-20), His identity (John 8:21-30) and putting forward their own claim to lineage (John 8:31-47).
They could not understand Jesus' mission (John 8:22) nor preaching (John 8:27,33) because of the root of all their religious activities and life: "You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires" (John 8:44). "When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44).
REFLECTION: Are we in the habit of spinning half-truths and lies to mislead and destroy others?
On the other hand, Jesus was the "I am" (John 8:58), a reference to the "I am who I am" of Exo 3:14, the God who revealed Himself to Moses. This was a claim to deity for which the Jews (who understood the significance of His claim) sought to stone Him for (John 8:59).
APPLICATION (2): Believe firmly that Jesus is God. This is the very foundation of our faith.

自耶稣的身份揭露后，祂与圣殿里法利赛人的互动也持续紧张。
耶稣宣告“我是世界的光...”(约8:12)指向耶稣的角色就是应验旧约经文里的所有应许(比如诗篇27:1，以赛亚49:6)。
应用(1):跟随耶稣以至我们不会行在黑暗中。
那些在场的都无法接受耶稣的宣告，他们对祂的见证的真实性(约8:13-20)、祂的身份(约 8:21-30)提出挑战，并指出他们自己的家族的血统(约8:31-47)。
他们不明白耶稣的使命(约8:22)或祂的道(约8:27,33)因为他们所有宗教活动和生命的起源就是：你们是出于你们的父魔鬼，喜欢按着你们的父的私欲行事(约8:44)。“他说谎是出于本性，因为他本来就是说谎者，也是说谎的人的父。”(约8:44)
反思:我们是否有编造半真半假的话或编造谎言来误导或毁灭他人的习惯？
另一方面，耶稣就是“我已经存在了”的那位神(约8:58)，这也是出埃及记3:14的“我是‘自有永有者’”，那向摩西彰显自己的神。这样称自己是神的宣告，就是犹太人(他们明白祂的宣告的意义)要用石头打祂的原因(约8:59)。
应用(2):坚信耶稣就是神。这是我们信仰的基础。
