Life is more complex than a simple straight forward cause and effect with God having no part in it. Suffering might be due to mankind's sins, but not always so.
In the case of the man "blind from birth" (John 9:1), God can chose to intervene, "that the works of God might be displayed" (John 9:3).
The stubborn refusal of the Pharisees to accept Jesus as from God now manifested itself in more and more questions and attempted "clarifications". They spoke to and asked various people the SAME question MANY times, hoping to get the answer they wanted (John 9:10,15,17,19,24,26). In the process, they also intentionally CLOSED OFF all other clues that might lead them to the correct answer of who Jesus was.
The Pharisees' point on Sabbath was to discredit Jesus' authority (John 9:13-14,16). The Jews already did not believe the miracle and sought help from the blind man's parents hoping to find contrary evidence (John 9:18-23). By now even the blind man could see clearly the stubbornness of the enquirers (John 9:27).
Even though life is complex, life's most important question and answer is simple: "the important thing in life is simple: "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" (John 9:35) He said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him. (John 9:38)
REFLECTION: Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” (John 9:39) What is your response to "the light of the world" (John 9:5)?

生命是复杂的，若比起没有神的介入、简单、直接的因果关系来说。苦难或许是人的罪造成的，但也不是每次都是这样。
在“生下来就瞎眼的”的记载中(约9:1),神可以选择插手，“要在他身上彰显 神的作为”。(约9:3)
法利赛人顽固不可接受耶稣是从神而来的事实，他们的问题越来越多并企图寻求“澄清”。他们与许多不同的人交谈，多次问他们同样的问题，希望能够得到他们想要的答案(约9:10,15,17,19,24,26)。在这个过程里，他们也有意封闭所有可能让他们找到有关耶稣真正是谁的线索。
法利赛人对于安息日的看法是为了要否定耶稣的权柄(约9:13-14,16)。犹太人已经不相信神迹并寻找瞎子的父母，希望能够找到矛盾的证据(约9:18-23)。而今，连那瞎眼的都能清楚地看见这些询问者的顽固。(约9:27)
虽然人生复杂，生命中最重要的问题和答案却是很简单的:"你信人子吗？”(约9:35)。他说：“主啊，我信，”就像祂下拜。(约9:38)
反思:耶稣说：“我到这世上来是为了审判，使那看不见的能够看见，能看见的反而成了瞎眼的。”(约9:39)对于这“世界的光”(约9:5)，你的回应是什么呢?
