God is holy, and sin cannot remain unaddressed among His people.
(1) The Flying Scroll: God’s Word Exposes Sin (vv. 1–4)
Zechariah sees a massive flying scroll, large enough for everyone to notice. The angel explains that it represents the curse of the law going out over the whole land. It specifically condemns theft and false oaths—sins that violate both love for neighbour and reverence for God.
This reminds us that God’s Word is not hidden or silent. It flies. It enters homes. It searches hearts. As Hebrews tells us, the Word of God is “living and active… discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
For evangelicals, this is a call to examine our lives honestly. It is easy to profess faith outwardly while tolerating hidden sin inwardly. But God’s holiness reaches into every corner. The scroll does not merely accuse—it acts, consuming what is unrepentant.
Yet for believers, this vision also points us to the gospel. The curse we deserved has been borne by Christ. As Galatians 3:13 declares, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” The flying scroll drives us to the cross, where judgment and mercy meet.
(2) The Basket: God Removes Wickedness (vv. 5–11)
In the second vision, Zechariah sees a basket containing a woman identified as “Wickedness.” She is sealed inside and carried away to Shinar (Babylon), the historic centre of rebellion against God.
This is not merely judgment—it is removal. God does not just expose sin; He takes it away from His people. The destination matters: wickedness is sent back to the place where it belongs, far from God’s holy presence.
For the believer, this anticipates the sanctifying work of God. Through the Holy Spirit, God is actively removing sin’s dominion from our lives. Though we still struggle, wickedness no longer defines us. As Romans 6 reminds us, “Sin will have no dominion over you.”
(3) Hope for a Holy People
Zechariah 5 may feel heavy, but it is ultimately hopeful. God’s judgment is not arbitrary—it is purposeful. He is preparing a people fit for His presence. These visions come in the context of restoration, pointing forward to a day when God dwells fully with His redeemed people.
In Christ, we can face God’s searching gaze without fear. The same God who judges sin also provides the means for cleansing and renewal.

(b) How does knowing Christ has borne the curse change how you respond to conviction?
Prayer:
Holy God, thank You that You see all things and yet love us still. Search our hearts, expose what is not pleasing to You, and lead us to repentance. Thank You for Jesus, who bore our curse and removes our sin. Make us a holy people for Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

上帝是圣洁的，祂的子民中绝不容忍未解决的罪孽。
(1) 飞行的卷轴：上帝的话语揭露罪孽（第1-4节）
撒迦利亚看见一卷巨大的飞卷，其规模足以令众人注目。天使解释说，这象征律法的咒诅正遍及全地。它特别谴责偷盗与虚假誓言——这些罪行既违背了爱邻舍的诫命，也亵渎了对神的敬畏。
这提醒我们：神的道并非隐匿或沉默。它如飞鸟般翱翔，进入家宅，探查人心。正如《希伯来书》所言，神的道是“活泼的，是有功效的...能辨明人心里的意念”。
对福音派信徒而言，这是诚实检视生命的呼召。人易于外表信主，内心却容忍隐秘之罪。但神的圣洁遍及每个角落。这卷轴不仅控告——它更施行审判，吞灭一切不悔改的罪。
然而对信徒而言，这异象更指向福音真谛。我们应得的咒诅已被基督担当。《加拉太书》3:13宣告：“基督既为我们受了咒诅，就赎出我们脱离律法的咒诅。”飞卷驱使我们奔向十字架——审判与怜悯交汇之处。
(2) 篮子：上帝除去邪恶（第5-11节）
在第二个异象中，撒迦利亚看见一个篮子，里面装着一个被称为“邪恶”的女子。她被密封在篮中，被带往示拿（巴比伦）——这个历史上反抗神的中心之地。
这不仅是审判，更是清除。神不仅揭露罪恶，更将罪恶从祂的子民中挪去。目的地至关重要：邪恶被遣返至它应属之地，远离神的圣洁同在。
对信徒而言，这预示着神的成圣工作。借着圣灵，神正主动从我们生命中剥夺罪的权柄。纵然仍存挣扎，邪恶已不再定义我们。正如《罗马书》6章所言：“罪必不能作你们的主。”
(3) 圣洁子民的盼望
撒迦利亚书第五章看似沉重，实则充满盼望。神的审判并非任意妄为，而是充满目的。祂正在预备配得祂同在的子民。这些异象出现在复兴的背景下，预示着神将全然与蒙救赎的子民同住的那日。
在基督里，我们得以无惧面对神审视的目光。那位审判罪恶的神，也赐下洁净与更新的途径。
反思与祷告
(a) 你生命中是否存在宁愿隐藏罪恶而不愿认罪的领域？
(b) 知道基督已承担咒诅，如何改变你面对良心责备时的反应？
祷告：
圣洁的上帝，感谢祢洞察万物却仍深爱我们。求祢察验我们内心，揭露一切不讨祢喜悦之处，引领我们悔改归向祢。感谢祢赐下耶稣，祂担当了我们的咒诅，除去我们的罪孽。求祢使我们成为圣洁的子民，为要彰显祢的荣耀。奉耶稣的名祈求。阿们。
