READ http://www.esv.org/eze1
Manufacturers of Sci-Fi todays can take a cue from the images depicted in Ezekiel 1. But this is not a toy, but a vision God gave Ezekiel to minister to His people in exile in a far away unfamiliar land (Babylon, modern-day Iraq).
🔥 Devotion: When the Spirit Moves, We Move
Scripture: “And each went straight forward. Wherever the spirit would go, they went, without turning as they went.” — Ezekiel 1:12 (ESV)
🛞 The Wheels That Followed the Spirit
In Ezekiel’s breathtaking vision, he describes living creatures with wheels beside them—mysterious, radiant wheels "full of eyes," capable of moving in any direction without turning. But what stands out most in verse 12 is this: the wheels only moved when the Spirit moved.
They didn’t swerve. They didn’t hesitate. They didn’t choose their own path.
They were completely synchronized with the Spirit.
While Ezekiel might be powerless to prevent his own exile to the Chebar canal in the land of the Chaldeans (Ezekiel 1:1,3), Ezekiel’s own response to life’s current situations was “his own” to make. Applies to you too—make the correct response today!
💡 A Picture of the Obedient Life
This is more than ancient imagery—it’s a divine blueprint for how our lives should move in step with the Spirit. Just like those wheels:
(1) We are called to move only when God leads.
(2) We’re not meant to turn aside to distractions, fear, or self-will.
(3) When the Spirit moves, we move. When He waits, we wait.
Mobility in the Kingdom isn’t merely about speed—it’s about alignment too. The wheels weren’t just fast or agile; they were faithful to the Spirit’s direction.
🙏 Application
Ask yourself:
(1) Am I synced with the Spirit—or still steering my own course?
(2) Do I pause long enough to discern His direction before I act?
(3) Can I trust God enough to move only when He says “go”?
Walking in the Spirit means holding on very lightly the wheel of control and letting God’s Spirit guide every motion of your life—whether it’s a new job, a ministry decision, or even a conversation. Letting go of the wheel completely is not the way to go, because God still wants you to co-work with Him. We are not “possessed” by the Spirit (losing control of ourselves completely), but “filled with the Spirit”.
🛐 Prayer
Lord, mold in me the habit to be in sync with your will and Word. Help me to move only when Your Spirit leads. Align my desires with Yours. Teach me to trust Your timing and direction—so that my life moves with divine purpose, never swerving to the left or right. In Jesus’ name, amen.
