📖 Scripture: Ephesians 6:1–9
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people…” (Ephesians 6:7)
💡Devotional Thought:
In Ephesians 6:1–9, Paul gives practical instructions for Christian households—children, parents, servants, and masters. At first glance, these seem like ordinary, even mundane roles. But Paul anchors every instruction in something extraordinary: the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Children are to obey their parents—not just because it's polite or part of the "Courtesy Campaign", but because it honours God (v.1). Parents are to raise their children—not in anger, but in the nurture of the Lord (v.4). Workers are to serve sincerely—not for human approval, but because they are serving Christ (v.5-7). And those in authority are to lead with humility—remembering they too have a Master in heaven (v.9).
What transforms these roles is not who we are, but whose we are.
Whether you’re a child, parent, employee, or boss, Paul is saying this: Your real audience is Jesus. You’re not just raising a child—you’re raising a disciple. You’re not just working a job—you’re serving the Lord. Every task, every relationship, becomes sacred when done for Him.
This is the freedom and beauty of the gospel. We don’t need a platform or a pulpit to serve Christ—He meets us in the kitchen, the office, the classroom, and the workshop. When we live and work with Jesus as our true Master, even the most ordinary moments become worship.
🪔 Reflection Questions:
(1) In what areas of your life do you tend to forget that you're ultimately serving Christ?
(2) How would your attitude change at work or at home if you remembered Jesus was your true boss?
(3) Are there relationships where you need to show more grace, remembering how God treats you?
🛐 Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that I belong to You. Help me to live every part of my life—at home, at work, and in my relationships—with You as my audience. Teach me to serve others with joy, knowing I am ultimately serving You. Let my life be a reflection of Your grace in every role I play. Amen.
