📖 Scripture focus: Ezekiel 29:3 (ESV)
“Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lies in the midst of his streams, that says, “My Nile is my own; I made it for myself.”’”

💡 Reflection:

Ezekiel 29 is a prophecy against Egypt and Pharaoh, spoken during a time when God's people were tempted to trust in political alliances rather than in the Lord. Egypt, once a mighty empire, boasted in its power and resources. Pharaoh claimed the Nile as his own, as if he were god over creation. But God’s words are sharp and clear: “I am against you.”

The core issue here isn't merely political—it's spiritual. Pharaoh's arrogance illustrates a heart that rejects God’s sovereignty. He sees himself as self-sufficient, the source of his own power. How often do we fall into the same trap? We lean on our finances, talents, or human support instead of God, declaring, “I made this for myself.”

But Egypt’s fall reminds us of a vital truth: Every kingdom not built on the Lord will eventually crumble. God alone is the Creator and Sustainer. When He says, “I am against you,” it is a terrifying reality for any nation—or person—who stands proudly apart from Him.

🔥 Gospel Connection:

The good news is that, while God resists the proud, He gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). The judgment in Ezekiel 29 is a wake-up call, not just for Egypt, but for all of us. It points forward to Christ, who bore God’s wrath in our place, so that we—once God's enemies—might become His beloved children through faith (Romans 5:10).

In Jesus, we are no longer crushed by God's judgment, but lifted by His mercy. He alone is the King who rules righteously, the One we can fully trust.

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, forgive me for the times I trust in my own strength or look to others for security instead of You. Tear down the false kingdoms in my life and build in me a heart that humbly depends on You. Thank You for Your mercy through Jesus. Help me walk faithfully under Your rule. In Jesus' name. Amen.
