Jeremiah 11:4–5 [4] ... Listen to my voice, and do all that I command you. So shall you be my people, and I will be your God, [5] that I may confirm the oath that I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day.” Then I answered, “So be it, LORD.” (ESV)

📖 Scripture:
Jeremiah 11:10–11 [10] They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words. They have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant that I made with their fathers. [11] Therefore, thus says the LORD, Behold, I am bringing disaster upon them that they cannot escape. Though they cry to me, I will not listen to them. (ESV)

📒 Devotion:
Jeremiah 11 is a sobering chapter. God reminds His people of the covenant He made with their ancestors—a covenant of blessing for obedience and consequences for rebellion. Yet despite generations of warnings, Israel of Jeremiah’s time has once again turned away from the Lord. They chose idols over intimacy with God, rituals over relationship, and rebellion over righteousness.

God’s words cut deep: “They have broken My covenant” (v.10). This isn’t just a legal matter—it’s personal. God speaks as a betrayed lover, not just a judge. His heart is grieved because His people have abandoned Him. But this chapter is not the end of the story. The covenant Israel broke, God Himself would one day fulfill—through Jesus Christ.

Where Israel failed to obey, Jesus obeyed perfectly. Where curses fell because of disobedience, Jesus bore the curse on the cross. The broken covenant cried out for justice—and Jesus answered with mercy. In Him, we are offered a new covenant, written not on stone tablets but on human hearts (Jeremiah 31:33).
So when we read Jeremiah 11, we don’t just see judgment—we see the faithfulness of God in the face of unfaithfulness. And we are called to turn from our own idols, to listen to His voice, and to rest in the grace secured by Christ.

🤔 Reflection Questions:
(1) Are there any "idols" (things you prioritize over God) that you’ve allowed to take root in your heart?

(2) How does Jesus’ faithfulness in keeping the covenant give you hope today?

(3) What is one way you can respond in obedience to God's voice this week?

🗣️Prayer: Lord, I confess that like Israel, I’ve often turned away from You and trusted in lesser things. Thank You that Jesus was faithful where I was not—that He fulfilled the covenant I could never keep. Help me to love You more deeply, listen to You more closely, and walk in the freedom and joy of the new covenant. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
