Key Verse: “The end has come upon the four corners of the land.” —Ezekiel 7:2b, ESV

Devotional Thought:
Ezekiel 7 is not an easy chapter to read. It’s heavy, filled with sorrow and impending judgment. God's message to Israel through Ezekiel is blunt: “Disaster after disaster! Behold, it comes.” (v. 5)

God’s people had turned their backs on Him. Their idolatry, violence, and arrogance had hardened their hearts. They assumed God’s patience meant permission. But the Lord makes it clear: there is a limit.

“Now I will soon pour out my wrath upon you, and spend my anger against you, and judge you according to your ways.” (v. 8)

This chapter reminds us that God is holy and that He will not overlook sin forever. His justice demands a response to evil. The judgment here is not impulsive anger—it’s a long-awaited reckoning after centuries of warning and mercy.

But even in judgment, there's a deeper truth for the believer today: God’s justice and mercy meet at the cross. The wrath we deserved was poured out on Jesus, our substitute. The end of judgment for us began at Calvary.

Reflection Questions:
(1) Is there any area of your life where you’ve ignored God's warnings or His Word?

(2) Have you mistaken God’s patience for indifference toward sin?

(3) How does knowing that Jesus bore God’s wrath on your behalf change the way you see this chapter?

Prayer:
Holy God, I tremble at Your justice. I confess that I’ve often grown comfortable with sin and slow to repent. Thank You for Your mercy shown to me through Jesus. Help me walk in reverent obedience, not out of fear of wrath, but from love and gratitude. Teach me to honour Your holiness in my thoughts, actions, and desires. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Encouragement:
Ezekiel 7 is a warning, but for the believer, it’s also a wake-up call to live fully for Christ, knowing He bore the judgment we could never endure. Let the seriousness of sin stir a greater love for the Saviour who saved you from it.
