QT 27/11/2024 Wed. Hebrews 12
READ http://www.esvbible.org/heb12
The many ancients of chapter 11 should cause the readers of Hebrews to "lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely" (Heb 12:1). The readers should then fix their eyes on Jesus (Heb 12:2).
The existence of sin necessitates discipline, which is for the purpose of "our good" (Heb 12:10), "that we may share in his holiness" (Heb 12:10). The implementation and acceptance of God's discipline are also proofs of the relationship of being true sons and daughters even though "all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant" (Heb 12:11).
REFLECTION (1): Am I ever beyond error such that nobody can ever correct or discipline me?
REFLECTION (2): Have I allowed the "root of bitterness" to grow up within, which "causes trouble, and by it many become defiled"? (Heb 12:15). Have I given in to the "sexually immoral" or "unholy" behaviours (Heb 12:16)?
APPLICATION (1): Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. (Heb 12:14)
APPLICATION (2): In view of who God is (Heb 12:18-29), all should come to God with holiness, reverent fear and awe.
http://m.bbintl.org/bible/ncv/Heb/12/
