Is this saying of any value? “It’s Not Your Past Scars—But Your Present Rigidity That Breaks You” What do you think? Let’s unpack the 3 major components in Luke 19.
(1) A Cursed Past Doesn’t Define a Redeemed Present (Luke 19:1–10)
Jericho once carried a curse, a mark of judgment from its past. Yet by the time of Jesus, that history no longer held power over those willing to respond to Him. Enter Zacchaeus—a chief tax collector, wealthy yet spiritually empty. His past was stained with dishonesty, but when he encountered Christ, everything changed. His repentance was not theoretical; it was visible, costly, and immediate.
The lesson: Your past may explain you, but it does not have to define you. Old wounds don’t stop you—unless you let them harden your present heart.
At times, we can still see an old wound, perhaps on our forearms. No, we can’t forget it. But when you rub your hands over the healed wounds of the past, it is no longer painful. It has healed. May we strive to heal old wounds so that it is no longer painful, instead of getting it open again, instead of bringing it to the present again, and relive the pain once more. No, don’t do that.
(2) Faithfulness Today Determines What You Keep Tomorrow (Luke 19:11–27)
In the parable of the minas, Jesus contrasts servants who acted with faith and one who shrank back in fear. The difference wasn’t opportunity—it was response.
Two servants were faithful and multiplied what they were given. Another, paralysed by fear and mistrust, lost even what he had. Likewise, those who rejected the king forfeited both material and spiritual blessing.
The lesson: Loss is not rooted in your past limitations, but in present unfaithfulness. A hardened, inactive heart is more dangerous than any past failures.
(3) Jesus Is Lord Over All Time—Past, Present, and Future (Luke 19:37–38)
As Jesus descended the Mount of Olives, the crowds erupted in praise:
“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” (v. 38)
They rejoiced not just for what He had done, but for who He is—the reigning King over every moment of time.
The lesson: Christ is not limited by your history, nor hindered by your present. But your response to His lordship today determines your future.
Closing Exhortation
May those who recognise His lordship continue to praise Him, pray faithfully, and walk in the new life He offers. Because in the end: It’s not your past scars—but your present rigidity that breaks you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father. Thank You that my past does not define me—Your grace does. Soften my heart where it has grown hard, and help me respond to You with faith and obedience today. Teach me to trust You, to walk in new life, and to honour You in all I do. You are Lord over my past, present, and future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

耶利哥城曾背负着咒诅，那是它过去所受审判的印记。然而到了耶稣的时代，那段历史已不再对那些愿意回应祂的人拥有任何权柄。撒该登场了——这位税吏长，虽家财万贯，却灵里空虚。他的过去沾染着不诚实的污点，但当他遇见基督时，一切都改变了。他的悔改并非纸上谈兵；它是显而易见的、代价高昂的，且立竿见影。
启示：你的过去或许能解释你是谁，但它不必定义你。旧伤不会阻挡你——除非你任由它们使你当下的心变得刚硬。
有时，我们仍能看见旧伤，或许就在前臂上。不，我们无法忘记它。但当你用手抚过那些已愈合的旧伤时，它不再疼痛。它已经痊愈了。愿我们努力治愈旧伤，使它不再疼痛，而不是让它重新裂开，不是把它带回当下，再次重温那份痛苦。不，千万不要那样做。
(2) 今日的忠心决定明日所得（路加福音 19:11–27）
在“米拿”的比喻中，耶稣对比了那些凭着信心行事的仆人和那个因恐惧而退缩的仆人。区别不在于机会——而在于回应。
有两个仆人忠心耿耿，使所受的加倍；另一个则因恐惧和猜疑而瘫痪，甚至连原本拥有的也失去了。同样，那些拒绝王的人，既失去了物质上的祝福，也失去了属灵的祝福。
教训是：损失的根源不在于你过去的局限，而在于当下的不忠。一颗刚硬、不活跃的心，比任何过去的失败都更危险。
(3) 耶稣是贯穿过去、现在和未来的所有时光的主（路加福音 19:37–38）
当耶稣从橄榄山走下来时，人群爆发出赞美之声：
“奉主名来的王，是应当称颂的！在天上有和平，在至高之处有荣耀！”（第38节）
他们欢欣的不仅是因为祂所行的，更是因为祂的身份——那位掌管每一刻时光的君王。
学习：基督不受你过往经历的限制，也不受你当下处境的阻碍。但你今日对祂主权的回应，将决定你的未来。
结语
愿那些认清祂主权的人，继续赞美祂，恒切祷告，并活出祂所赐的新生命。因为归根结底：摧毁你的，不是过去的伤痕，而是你当下的僵化。
