Have you ever wondered if God will really keep His promises? People disappoint us. Circumstances change. But 2 Corinthians 1 reveals one unshakable truth: every promise God has ever made finds its 'Yes' in Jesus Christ. Stay with me as we discover why that changes everything for our faith today.

Scripture Focus: 2 Corinthians 1:19–20 (ESV)
"For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory." (ESV)

(1) Theme: Christ Is God's Certain "Yes"

In a world of broken promises and changing circumstances, God's Word stands firm because it is anchored in Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle reminds the Corinthian believers that the gospel is not uncertain or inconsistent. Jesus Christ is not "Yes and No"—He is God's unwavering "Yes."

Paul had been criticized for changing his travel plans, but instead of defending himself first, he points to the unchanging character of Christ. Human plans may change, but God's saving purpose never does. The reliability of the messenger rests upon the reliability of the Saviour.

Verse 20 is one of the Bible's richest statements about Christ: "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him." Every promise God made throughout the Scriptures reaches its fulfillment in Jesus. The promises of forgiveness, reconciliation, eternal life, the gift of the Holy Spirit, adoption into God's family, and the coming kingdom are all secured through Christ's life, death, and resurrection.

This does not mean that every promise in Scripture applies to every believer in the same way or in the same circumstance. Rather, it means that God's redemptive plan culminates in Christ. He is the fulfillment of God's covenant promises and the guarantee that God will complete His work of salvation for His people.

Because God's promises are certain in Christ, believers respond with "Amen." "Amen" is more than the conclusion of a prayer. It is a confession of faith: "It is true. I believe it. Let it be so." Every heartfelt "Amen" expresses confidence not in ourselves, but in the faithfulness of God revealed in His Son.

Paul concludes that all of this is "for his glory." The certainty of God's promises is intended to magnify God, not us. Our salvation, our assurance, and our worship all direct attention to His grace and faithfulness.

(2) Gospel Reflection

The cross and resurrection are God's decisive "Yes" to His promise of redemption. In Christ, God has accomplished what sinful humanity could never achieve. Because Jesus has fully paid for sin and conquered death, believers can rest in the certainty that God will keep every promise He has made concerning salvation.

Our assurance is not based on the strength of our faith but on the faithfulness of the One in whom we trust.

(3) How do we Apply this truth today?

  • Build your confidence on Christ rather than on changing circumstances or emotions.
  • Read God's promises through the lens of Jesus, who fulfills His redemptive purposes.
  • Let your "Amen" be a sincere expression of trust and worship.
  • Remember that God's faithfulness today is grounded in His unchanging character, demonstrated in Christ.
  • Live in a way that brings glory to God, whose promises never fail.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that every promise You have made concerning salvation finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. When my circumstances are uncertain, help me to rest in Your unchanging faithfulness. Strengthen my faith so that my life continually says "Amen" to Your truth. May my words, worship, and obedience bring glory to You through Your Son, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

(1) 主题：基督是上帝确定的“是”

在这个充满背弃承诺和变幻莫测的世上，神的话语却屹立不倒，因为它以耶稣基督为根基。使徒保罗提醒哥林多信徒，福音绝非不确定或自相矛盾的。耶稣基督并非“是又不是”——祂是神坚定不移的“是”。

保罗曾因更改行程计划而受到批评，但他并没有首先为自己辩护，而是指出了基督不变的品格。人的计划或许会改变，但神的救赎旨意永不改变。使者的可靠性，取决于救主的可靠性。

第20节是《圣经》中关于基督最深刻的陈述之一：“因为　神的一切应许，在基督里都是“是”的。神在整个《圣经》中所作的每一项应许，都在耶稣里得以实现。关于赦免、和好、永生、圣灵的恩赐、被收纳为神的儿女以及将要来临的国度等应许，都是通过基督的生命、死亡和复活而得以确立的。

这并不意味着圣经中的每一项应许都以相同的方式或在相同的情况下适用于每位信徒。相反，这意味着神的救赎计划在基督里达到了顶点。祂是神盟约应许的实现，也是神必将为祂的子民完成救赎工作的保证。

正因神的应许在基督里是确定的，信徒便以“阿们”作回应。“阿们”不仅仅是祷告的结语，更是一份信仰的告白：“这是真的。我信。愿它成就。”每一个发自内心的“阿们”，所表达的信心并非源于我们自己，而是源于神在祂儿子身上所显明的信实。

保罗总结说，这一切都是“为要显明祂的荣耀”。神应许的确据旨在高举神，而非我们自己。我们的救恩、确据和敬拜，都将人的目光引向祂的恩典与信实。

(2) 福音反思

十字架与复活是上帝对其救赎应许所作出的决定性“是”。在基督里，上帝成就了罪人永远无法实现的事。正因耶稣已完全为罪付上代价并战胜了死亡，信徒才能确信上帝必会信守祂关于救赎的一切应许，从而安然无忧。

我们的确信并非基于我们信心的强弱，而是基于我们所信靠的那一位的信实。

(3) 今天我们该如何应用这一真理？

  • 让你的信心建立在基督身上，而不是建立在变幻莫测的环境或情绪之上。
  • 透过耶稣的视角来阅读神的应许，因为祂成就了神的救赎计划。
  • 让你的“阿们”成为信靠与敬拜的真诚表达。
  • 切记，今日神的信实根植于祂不变的品格，并在基督里得以彰显。
  • 以荣耀神的方式生活，因祂的应许永不落空。
