READ http://www.esv.org/col3:1-11
📖 Scripture focus: Colossians 3:1–3 (ESV)
[1] If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. [3] For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (ESV)
Reflection: Living the New Life in Christ
This passage from Colossians is a powerful call to transformation. Paul is writing to believers — those who have already "been raised with Christ." That’s a reference to our new identity through salvation: when we trust in Jesus, we die to our old selves and are raised to a new life in Him (v. 3). Our identity is now hidden in Christ, and one day, when He appears, we will appear with Him in glory (v. 4).
But that identity comes with a calling: "Set your minds on things above." This is more than a call to heavenly thoughts — it's a call to heavenly living. We are to "put to death" what is earthly in us: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness — which Paul says is idolatry (v. 5). These are serious words because the stakes are serious. God's wrath is coming on such things (v. 6).
And yet, there is hope. We once walked in these ways, but now we can put them away — anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk (v. 8). We can stop lying, because in Christ, we have put off the old self and put on the new, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator (v. 10).
This renewal is radical: in Christ, all barriers fall — no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free — but Christ is all, and in all (v. 11). Our unity, our identity, and our calling are found in Him.
Application:
(1) Examine your heart. Are there areas of your life where the "old self" still has power? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you put them to death.
(2) Refocus your mind. What are you seeking? What are your thoughts set on? Choose today to fix your eyes on Christ, not the distractions of this world.
(3) Live the new life. God is actively renewing you — not just saving you from sin, but transforming you into the likeness of Christ. Walk in that.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for raising me to new life in Christ. Help me to set my heart and mind on things above, where Christ is. Give me the power by Your Spirit to put to death what is earthly in me and to walk in the new life You have given me. Thank You that in Jesus, I am made new, and that You are continually renewing me in His image. May Christ be all and in all in my life today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
阅读 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=colossians 3%3A1-11&version=CNVS
