Day 03: Emotional Adultery (Killer)

When a person turns to someone of the opposite gender outside the marriage for "First Aid" support, "First in time" support, even "Main Support", that person is threading on the dangerous grounds of emotional adultery. Initially, it might not be within physical proximity, but frequently leads to that—light physical contact, then physical adultery.
When the husband and wife are in conflict, tension, quarrel or in silent treatment of the other, either of them might be tempted to turn to a friend, colleague or acquaintance of the opposite gender for companionship due to the loneliness or emptiness of that moment, or to meet a legitimate need.
When that other person of the opposite gender in the workplace or other settings responds beyond the "hi" and "bye" courtesy greetings (or mere work related interactions), but engages in the sharing of personal information and supporting that spouse in place of the husband/wife, an emotional adultery has started.
How can there be protection against emotional adultery in a marital relationship? Some suggests that the underlying foundation of "communication", "problem solving capacity" and "meeting expectations" play some roles. Risks of Emotional Adultery increases when there is poor or no communication, unwillingness to resolve critical differences, or setting unrealistic expectations on self or the other.
A safety net would be awareness of this killer, so that none would be caught unprepared when the snare appears, so that all can set wise boundaries to avoid being entangled in uncontrolled spin into destruction and death.
