The LORD referred to the episodes of Egypt and Assyria (52:4) as times when His name was despised. The watching world could see the pathetic state His people had descended into. No doubt the LORD’s justice and mankind’s sins had somehow resulted in this sad state of affairs.

But the LORD had given the good news through Isaiah the prophet.

Isaiah 52:6–7 [6] Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here I am.” [7] How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” (ESV)

REFLECTION: Do we know God? Have we experienced His power in the face of obstacles to do His will?

The people of God would experience His nature and character when they review history. Just think about it, God can be known personally and experienced! This is such a wonderful thought. Nevertheless, we have to keep in mind two thoughts

(1) Faith is required to experience God. The question is not whether God has the capacity to save, and not whether salvation has been prepared. The challenge for today is whether those who are confronted with the wonder of this good news are prepared to change to a lifestyle of wonder and awe.

(2) Thankfulness is very much part of the journey. Verses 53:13–15 revealed just how much His servant had to go through for salvation to be available—crucifixion.

Isaiah 52:13–15 He Was Pierced for Our Transgressions
[13] Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up,
and shall be exalted. [14] As many were astonished at you—his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—[15] so shall he sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand. (ESV)

APPLICATION: May we continue to have increased faith and thankfulness on this journey of knowing this wonderful God.
