What if your knowledge and dependence of God is incomplete… and God wants to finish it? That’s exactly what happened in Acts 19. Paul meets believers, exposes false religion, and faces violent opposition—but God’s Spirit transforms hearts and gives courage to persist. Are you letting Him finish His work in you? Let’s dive in.
In Acts 19, Paul arrives in Ephesus and meets disciples of John—believers who knew God but hadn’t yet received the full Spirit of Christ. God’s power completes what our faith begins. Then Paul encounters false religion—people trying to imitate God’s miracles for their own gain. True faith isn’t about power or show; it transforms hearts. And yes, opposition comes. Paul faces riots, threats, and violence—but God’s mission cannot be stopped. Faith that transforms and courage that persists—that’s the call for all of us today.
(1) Paul Encounters Disciples of John (Acts 19:1–10)
Paul finds believers who had received only John’s baptism. After teaching them about Jesus, they receive the Holy Spirit, showing God’s work is complete only in Christ.
Reflection: Even sincere faith can be incomplete without knowing Jesus fully. God invites us to deeper understanding and transformation through His Spirit.
Personal Question: Are there areas of your faith that need renewing or fresh prompts by the Holy Spirit to move to the next stage of growth?
(2) Paul Encounters False Religion at Ephesus (Acts 19:11–22)
God confirms His power through miracles, but some attempt to imitate His work for personal gain. Many see the error of false practices and turn to Christ.
Reflection: True faith transforms the heart; it is not a tool for personal power or profit.
What “false gods” or empty practices do you need to turn from in your life?
Personal Question: How can you discern and resist practices that mimic God’s work but lack His truth?
(3) Paul Experiences Violent Opposition at Ephesus (Acts 19:23–41)
Paul’s ministry threatens cultural and economic interests. Riots erupt, yet God’s mission continues.
Reflection: Following Christ may bring opposition—but God sustains His work. Are you prepared to trust God even when your faith meets resistance?
Personal Question: Where in your life or community is God calling you to boldness despite opposition? Ask yourself: Am I letting God complete my faith? Am I bold for Him, even when the world resists? Acts 19 reminds us—God’s Spirit empowers us to stand firm and shine bright.
Prayer
Lord, deepen my faith in You. Help me to discern truth from falsehood, to trust You when I face opposition, and to rely on Your Spirit to transform me and those around me. Give me courage to persist in Your mission. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
