Romans 11 says this: if you’re saved, it’s not because you’re better — it’s because of mercy. We stand here today because God was gracious… and because someone before us carried the faith to us. So stay humble, remember the root, and never forget where you came from. Let’s unpack Romans 11.

Scripture Focus: Romans 11:30-32 (ESV)
"Just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all."

Reflection: Romans 11 reminds us of the incredible mystery of God’s mercy. Paul writes about the unfaithfulness of Israel and the inclusion of the Gentiles—but the point is not condemnation; it is mercy. All of us, without exception, have received God’s mercy. None of us earn it, and none of us deserve it. We stand saved not because of our superiority, our effort, or our insight, but because God, in His grace, reached down to us through Christ.

Mercy is a powerful teacher. When we remember that God has forgiven and restored us, arrogance has no foothold. Paul warns the Gentile believers not to be conceited or boastful about their inclusion. We are branches grafted in, not because of our own strength, but because of the rich root of God’s promises and the faithfulness of those who came before us.

Application:

(1) Remember from where you came. Your faith did not spring from your own abilities; it was nurtured by the prayers, example, and witness of others. Family, friends, mentors, and even strangers may have been instruments of God’s grace in your life. Pause and thank God—and them.

(2) Avoid arrogance. Arrogance often creeps in when we forget mercy. Humility flourishes when we remember that every blessing, every opportunity to serve, every step toward Christ is rooted in God’s grace, not our merit.

(3) Extend mercy to others. We are called to be conduits of mercy, reflecting God’s love to those around us. Just as God was patient with us, we are to be patient with others, inviting them into the same mercy that saved us.

We are all recipients of mercy, and mercy humbles us. Let gratitude guard your heart against arrogance, and let your life be a testament to the truth that we are here because of others and through God’s undeserved favor.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your unending mercy. Remind me daily that I stand here not because of my own merit but because of Your grace and the faithfulness of those You have placed in my life. Keep me humble, keep me generous, and help me to extend mercy to others as freely as You have extended it to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

反思：《罗马书》第11章提醒我们，神的怜悯是何等不可思议的奥秘。保罗论及以色列的不忠与外邦人的被接纳——但重点不在于定罪，而在于怜悯。我们所有人，无一例外，都蒙受了神的怜悯。我们无人靠自己得着，也无人配得。我们得救并非因我们的优越、努力或洞见，而是因为神凭着祂的恩典，借着基督向我们伸手。

(3) 向他人施予怜悯。我们被召唤成为怜悯的管道，向周围的人反映神的爱。正如神对我们有耐心一样，我们也应当对他人有耐心，邀请他们进入那拯救了我们的怜悯之中。

启示：
我们都是怜悯的接受者，而怜悯使我们谦卑。愿感恩之心守护你的心，免于骄傲；愿你的生命见证这一真理：我们之所以在此，是因他人，更是因上帝那我们不配得的恩典。

祷告

主啊，感谢祢无尽的怜悯。求祢每日提醒我，我今日能站在这里，并非因我自己的功德，而是因祢的恩典，以及祢在我生命中所安置之人的信实。求祢使我谦卑，使我慷慨，并帮助我像祢向我施恩那样，毫无保留地将怜悯施予他人。奉耶稣的名求，阿们。
