Wow. Friday again. But it is with sadness that we learn that another young artiste was found "unresponsive", confirmed dead at only 25 years.
The urgent message of Zechariah 9:14–17 is that there is a God that can save us from all sorts of dangers and troubles. Embracing the LORD of Zechariah would open the way for "Then the LORD will appear over them, and his arrow will go forth like lightning.." (9:14).
Indeed, "The LORD of hosts will protect them" (9:15). Zechariah then went on to describe the comprehensiveness of the LORD's protection. This protection was not only a "shield", but also active—having the capability to "devour", "tread down" and "roar" in the sight of unholy, unrighteous and sinful threats.
The message is simple, such that all levels of society and education can understand–"On that day the LORD their God will save them, as the flock of his people" (9:16). God's people have intrinsic value, because the LORD considers them "like the jewels of a crown they shall shine on his land" (9:16).
Once in a while, thoughts of ending one's life might flash past the minds of believers. But Zechariah speaks to those in possible despair and desperation (however caused). We are to see "how great is his goodness, and how great his beauty!" (9:20).
Jesus died and rose again to save His people. We are to hope in Him and live for Him.
