Cling on to Jesus!

REFLECTION: But how can I cling on to someone whom I do not see? How can I cling on when I feel like shrinking back?

APPLICATION: Learn and imitate "the ancients" (Heb 11:2-38). "These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth." (Heb 11:13)

These ancients too struggled to avoid backsliding. "They would have had opportunity to return" to their old life style (Heb 11:15). Instead, the ancients looked forward to "a better country, that is, a heavenly one" (Heb 11:16a).

The writer's conclusion is that "And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect." (Heb 11:39-40)

The ancients' examples become ours. The ancients' stories have somehow become our stories! The ancients and us NOW, TOGETHER, have unhindered access to God the Father. Let's hope for the BETTER things, available for those who cling on to Jesus Christ. Stand Firm, brothers and sisters, growing in the knowledge and experience of God.
